"The best bed on the waterways" - Canal Boat magazine

Well, one of their columnists anyway!

These are for Bones, who was mightily impressed with the design of our folding bed (not by us, but by the Duck's previous owner), and has been wanting one for herself ever since. We have been extremely tardy in providing these details, but here they are at last!

  1. ooh! Brill - thank you! Is the bed hinged below or above the gunwhale?

  2. Oops, my bad! The diagram I drew is wrong.

The hinge is at the same level as the gunwale, really- not tucked away underneath it.

I'm just thinking that, before you start cutting timber, it might be worth making a mock-up out of cardboard or something to make sure you're happy with the size of the bed, the amount of corridor you have when it's down, and the headroom when it's up. :) The desk chair that we've got is also specially shortened to fit the space under the bed.

  6. Two points:-

    1. Is there Dexion all the way round or just along the two edges.

    2. I am thinking about the other one :)

  7. I think the Dexion stuff is only along the two long edges.

I'll have a look at the gas struts tonight. :)

  8. mmm, M10 bolts. My favourite.

    Seriously!

So it hinges up, so daytime position is angled upwards? I'd got the impression from MB it folded down the back of something as well, but this is great. ;-)

  10. hey guys! More questions: How high is the wardrobe? I am getting the welding done on monday and am wondering how high the base of the bed is from the floor - as it rests on the wardrobe I figured it was just as easy to measure the height of the wardrobe!

    Cheers
