Kindling

James got me the BEST present for my birthday - a Kindle e-book reader. There were delays at the warehouse so although he told me it was on its way on my birthday, I had several days of excited waiting before it finally arrived. He figured that since I am commuting down to London a lot, having an easy way to read things on the train without lugging lots of books about would be a boon. Plus, as space constrained boaters it makes a lot of sense to buy ebooks rather than real ones.

A case in point was that the new Terry Pratchett book, Snuff, came out a few days ago and I was itching to read it. But it wouldn't be available in the library for ages, and it would be a while before I could borrow it from a friend, so buying the ebook was the perfect solution.

I love it. It's so light and intuitive to use, and the screen really does look like paper! Plus, it only needs charging every few weeks so no worries about battery life.

  1. I really really want one of these. I'm thinking about asking for one for christmas - but telling my parents NOW so that I might have a chance of getting one in time!
PS Hi James and Amy! Haven't caught up in a while.

  2. Happy Birthday!
The other good feature about the Kindle is that you can download books anywhere - as long as you have the 3G one of course :-)- and they come in seconds! I was really amazed at how good the screen was, I had been very resistant about getting one because I'm not keen on reading loads on a computer screen but this is quite different.

  4. Happy Birthday :)

I bought myself a Kindle for my birthday. I am trying to learn how to write .mobi files myself; so I can send files to mine automatically.

I love the free books on Amazon
