Wandering through a shop off Cambridge's Mill Road, we came across this little homespun magazine, with - bizarrely - a badly stretched photograph of the Duck on the front page of its March 2009 edition. Ironically for a publication that claims to be 'Your city, your community, your magazine' we had no idea that it even existed, let alone that our home was its cover star!

Hi James, just read your article in WW it seems all your troubles are coming at once. Obviously you are slowly putting things right. Over many years I have had various 1.5& 1.8 BMC engines they do have one downfall that is with the pressed out steel sump (if fitted to your engine) they tend to rot from the outside in by means of very small pin holes normally on the bottom, you can see if this is happening by low oil on the dip stick, or wipe the sump bottom clean and after a while look at the bottom of the sump with a mirror. If you find globules of oil this may be the case however I understand they now make a cast aluminum sump. The people who can help who are BMC specialists are Calcutt Boats 01 926 813757. This was a common problem and I have known people to remove the sump and braze a plate over the bottom this of course is a cheap alternative. Hope this info is some use to you regards Paul
