Exciting Future Boat Plans

This year, if all goes to plan, we are hoping to sell our beloved Duck and upgrade to a longer boat. We have outgrown the space we have - James needs space for lesson planning and marking and the little table we have isn't really adequate for working at home.

Logistics mean that we won't realistically be able to move onto and transport a new boat until a school holiday so the boat's not officially for sale yet.

So this is a 'heads-up' to anyone who's looking to buy an ingeniously laid out 48ft narrowboat that's well adapted to off-grid living, in the next few months. It would be perfect for someone who's just come to the top of the Cambridge waiting list!
Guide price: £28,000.

Unfortunately we are not able to sell the boat with the mooring - notwithstanding the fact that we still want it for our next boat, it's not allowed in our mooring contract.

So our next boat? Well, ideally it would be a converted historic boat, full length (70-72ft), with a vintage engine and a back cabin. That's about it for our criteria. Everything else can be worked out over the years to come (so it needs to have space to expand our family too!).

  1. Hi,

Just to say Good Luck in your search for your ideal full length historic boat. It's one heck of an exciting adventure that you're setting out on, but a hugely rewarding too. I totally agree with your sentiment about getting a boat that you'll grow in to over the years, that really is an essential criterion, and one that caused us a few frustrating headaches before we found and bought BCN 18686, our old iron day boat last year.

I look forward to reading about your search, best wishes

    Nick

  3. Exciting plans indeed!

Have you managed to prise James away from Apollo Duck yet?

    :-)

  4. I wish you well in your search. Over the last couple of weeks there seems to have been an increase in the number of boats being offered for sale (of the sort we're looking for, anyway).
